Water consistently during the first year to establish the root system. Once established, American plums are moderately drought-tolerant. Water deeply during prolonged dry spells, especially when fruiting.

Avoid waterlogged soil, as this can lead to root rot. Allow the top few centimeters of soil to dry between waterings.

Prune in late winter or early spring while the plant is dormant. Remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches. Thin out dense areas to improve air circulation and light penetration.
