Spotted Emu BushEremophila maculata

Water thoroughly when the top 5-7 cm of soil is dry. Eremophila maculata is drought-tolerant once established and prefers to dry out between waterings.

Overwatering can lead to root rot, so ensure well-draining soil and avoid leaving the pot sitting in water.

Prune after flowering to maintain shape and encourage bushier growth. Remove dead or damaged stems at any time. Tip pruning young plants can promote a more compact form.

Heavy pruning can be done in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.

Propagate from semi-hardwood cuttings taken in summer or autumn. Dip cuttings in rooting hormone and plant in a well-draining medium. Keep moist and warm until roots form.

Seeds can also be sown in spring after a period of cold stratification.

Repot Eremophila maculata only when absolutely necessary, typically every 2-3 years, or when the plant becomes root-bound. Use a well-draining potting mix, such as a cactus or succulent blend.

Choose a pot only slightly larger than the current one to avoid excess moisture retention.
