Shallon thrives in consistently moist soil, especially during dry periods. Water deeply when the top few centimeters of soil feel dry. Avoid waterlogged conditions, as this can lead to root rot.

Reduce watering slightly in cooler months, but never let the soil become completely dry.

Prune Shallon to shape the plant, remove dead or damaged branches, and control size. The best time to prune is after flowering in late spring or early summer. Light pruning can be done anytime to maintain desired form.

Avoid heavy pruning as it can reduce flowering.

Shallon can be propagated from semi-hardwood cuttings taken in summer. Use a rooting hormone and plant in a well-draining, moist medium.

Alternatively, it can be propagated by seed, though this is a slower process and may result in plants with variable characteristics. Layering is also an option.
