Watering, pruning, propagation, and repotting details from plant data
Agalinis filicaulis prefers consistently moist soil but can tolerate brief dry spells. Water deeply when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry. Avoid waterlogged conditions, which can lead to root rot.
Reduce watering slightly during cooler months if the plant is in a dormant period.
Pruning is generally not required for Agalinis filicaulis. Deadheading spent flowers can encourage further blooming and improve the plant's appearance.
If the plant becomes leggy, a light trim in late spring can help promote bushier growth.
Propagation is typically achieved through seeds, which often require stratification. Sow seeds in the fall or provide a period of cold, moist stratification before sowing in spring.
It is a hemiparasite, so it benefits from being near a host plant when sown.
Repotting Agalinis filicaulis is rarely necessary due to its often annual or biennial nature and shallow root system.
If grown in a container, repot only if the plant becomes root-bound, usually in spring before active growth begins. Use well-draining soil.
