Prune in late winter or early spring while dormant. Remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches. Light pruning can be done after flowering to shape the tree and improve air circulation.

Avoid heavy pruning, as this can reduce fruit production. Thinning out crowded branches encourages better light penetration.

Propagation is typically done by seed, which requires a period of cold stratification. Grafting is also effective for cultivar preservation.

Softwood cuttings can be taken in early summer and rooted under humid conditions with bottom heat. Seed-sown plants may take several years to flower and fruit.

Repot young, container-grown plants every 2-3 years in early spring before new growth begins. Choose a pot that is slightly larger than the current one. Use a well-draining potting mix.

Water thoroughly after repotting and avoid fertilizing for several weeks. Mature trees are generally not repotted.
