Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water regularly during dry periods, especially in warmer weather. Allow the top layer of soil to dry slightly between waterings to prevent root rot.

Reduce watering in winter when the plant is dormant.

Prune to maintain a tidy appearance or to remove any dead, damaged, or diseased foliage. Lightly trim back after flowering to encourage a more compact form and potentially a second flush of blooms.

Remove any flowering stems that have finished to prevent excessive self-seeding if unwanted.

Propagated easily from seed sown in autumn or early spring. Can also be propagated by division of established clumps in early spring.

Softwood cuttings taken in late spring or early summer can also be rooted under humid conditions.

Repot container-grown plants every 2-3 years in spring as needed. Choose a pot with good drainage and use a well-draining, moist potting mix.

If growing in the ground, repotting is rarely necessary unless moving or dividing the plant.
