Water moderately during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Reduce watering significantly in winter to prevent root rot.

Ensure good drainage to avoid waterlogged conditions, especially in containers.

Remove spent flower stalks to prevent self-seeding if unwanted, and to encourage a tidier appearance. Light pruning can be done after flowering to maintain shape. Cut back dead foliage in late autumn or early spring.

Propagate by division in early spring or autumn. Seeds can be sown in autumn or spring in a cold frame. Germination can be slow and erratic. Softwood cuttings can also be taken in early summer.

Repot container-grown plants every 2-3 years in spring. Use a well-draining, gritty compost mix. Alpine hawkweed prefers slightly confined conditions and does not require frequent repotting.
