Water regularly during the growing season, allowing the top 2-3 cm of soil to dry out between waterings. Reduce watering significantly in winter, only providing enough to prevent the soil from becoming bone dry.

Overwatering can lead to root rot.

Prune in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches to maintain a desirable shape and encourage air circulation.

Light pruning can also be done to control size and encourage bushier growth.

Propagation is typically done from seeds sown in spring. Seeds may require scarification or a period of stratification.

Cuttings can also be taken from semi-hardwood in late summer, but are generally more difficult to root.

Repot young plants annually in spring, and mature plants every 2-3 years, or when root-bound. Use a well-draining potting mix. Choose a pot that is only slightly larger than the current one to avoid waterlogging.
