Water consistently when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry. Avoid overwatering, as this can lead to root rot. Reduce watering slightly during the cooler, dormant months.

Ensure the pot has good drainage to prevent waterlogged conditions, which Aphelandra species generally dislike.

Prune to maintain shape and encourage bushier growth. Pinch back the tips of new shoots in spring. Remove spent flower stalks promptly to redirect energy back into the plant.

Pruning also helps prevent the plant from becoming leggy and promotes a more compact form.

Propagate primarily through stem cuttings taken in spring or early summer. Select healthy, non-flowering stems, cut them to about 10-15 cm, and dip the ends in rooting hormone.

Plant in a well-draining potting mix and keep consistently moist and warm.

Repot every 2-3 years or when the plant becomes root-bound. Choose a pot one size larger with fresh, well-draining potting mix, ideally one formulated for tropical plants or a peat-based mix.
