Keep soil consistently moist, especially during active growth. Water thoroughly when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry. Reduce watering in winter, allowing the soil to dry out more between waterings to prevent root rot.

Ensure good drainage to avoid waterlogged conditions.

Deadheading spent flowers can encourage further blooming and prevent unwanted seed production. Prune away any dead, damaged, or diseased foliage as needed.

For plants grown for their ornamental seed heads, prune after the seeds have matured and dispersed.

Seeds can be sown directly outdoors in autumn or early spring. For earlier germination, start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost. Cold stratification may improve germination rates.

Division of established clumps in spring or autumn is also an effective method.

Young plants may benefit from repotting annually or every two years into a slightly larger container. Established plants are generally perennial and can remain in their pots for several years.
