Watering, pruning, propagation, and repotting details from plant data
Water Aristeguietia salvia thoroughly when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry. Avoid overwatering, as this can lead to root rot.
Reduce watering frequency during the dormant winter months, allowing the soil to dry out more between waterings. Ensure good drainage.
Prune Aristeguietia salvia in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches.
Light pruning can also be done after flowering to maintain shape and encourage bushier growth. This promotes a more compact and aesthetically pleasing plant.
Propagate Aristeguietia salvia from semi-hardwood cuttings taken in late spring or early summer. Dip the cut ends in rooting hormone and plant them in a well-draining potting mix.
Keep the cuttings moist and in a warm, bright location with indirect light until roots develop.
Repot Aristeguietia salvia every 2-3 years, or when it becomes root-bound. Spring is the ideal time for repotting. Use a well-draining potting mix and choose a pot that is only slightly larger than the current one.
Handle the root ball gently to avoid damage.
