Penstemon arkansanus prefers consistently moist soil during its active growing season, but avoid waterlogged conditions. Water deeply when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry.

Reduce watering in fall and winter, allowing the soil to dry out more between waterings to prevent root rot.

Deadhead spent flowers to encourage further blooming and maintain a tidy appearance. In late fall or early spring, prune back the previous season's growth to about 10-15 cm above the ground to promote vigorous new growth and prevent a straggly habit.

Seeds can be sown in fall or early spring, often requiring stratification (a period of cold, moist treatment) to break dormancy. Division of established clumps in early spring or fall is another effective method for propagation, ensuring the new plants retain desirable characteristics.

Repotting is generally not necessary for established plants grown in the ground. For container-grown specimens, repotting every 2-3 years in early spring before new growth begins is recommended.
