Watering, pruning, propagation, and repotting details from plant data
Water Artemisia atlantica moderately during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings.
Reduce watering significantly in winter, providing just enough to prevent the soil from becoming completely parched. Overwatering can lead to root rot, especially in poorly draining soils.
Prune Artemisia atlantica in early spring before new growth begins to maintain shape and encourage bushier growth. Deadhead spent flowers throughout the season to promote further blooming and prevent self-seeding.
For larger specimens, a harder prune after flowering can rejuvenate the plant.
Artemisia atlantica can be propagated by softwood cuttings taken in spring or semi-hardwood cuttings in summer. Root cuttings in well-draining potting mix.
Division of established clumps in spring is another effective method, ensuring each division has sufficient roots and shoots for successful transplanting.
Repot Artemisia atlantica every 2-3 years or when it becomes root-bound. Choose a pot that is slightly larger than the current one and use a well-draining potting mix, ideally containing sand or perlite.
Repot in spring before the active growing season commences to minimize stress.
