Watering, pruning, propagation, and repotting details from plant data
Water regularly once the soil has begun to dry out, particularly during warmer months and establishment. Ensure good drainage to prevent waterlogged roots.
Reduce watering in winter, allowing the soil to dry more between waterings. Aim for consistent, but not excessive, moisture.
Prune in late winter or early spring to shape the plant, remove dead or diseased branches, and control size. Laurus azorica responds well to shaping and can be maintained as a hedge or specimen tree.
Avoid heavy pruning in late autumn.
Propagate by semi-hardwood cuttings taken in summer. Root cuttings in a well-draining medium in a warm, humid environment. Alternatively, seeds can be sown in autumn, but germination can be erratic.
Patience is key for successful propagation.
Repot young plants annually or biannually in spring. Mature plants can be repotted every 2-3 years or when root-bound. Use a well-draining potting mix.
Choose a pot one size larger than the current one to allow for root expansion.
