Ensure good drainage to avoid standing water.

Prune to shape the tree, remove dead or crossing branches, and encourage bushier growth. Light pruning can be done anytime, but heavier pruning is best done in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.

Avoid excessive pruning.

Propagate primarily through seeds, which require stratification and can be slow to germinate. Cuttings can also be taken from semi-hardwood in summer, treated with rooting hormone, and kept in a warm, humid environment.

Grafting is another effective method.

Repot young plants every 1-2 years, and mature plants every 3-5 years, typically in spring. Choose a pot that is only slightly larger than the current one. Use a well-draining potting mix.
