Keep the soil consistently moist, never letting it dry out completely. For submerged plants, ensure the water level is maintained appropriately for the variety, usually covering the rhizome by 10-30 cm.

Avoid waterlogging the crown.

Remove any yellowing or dead leaves and spent flowers promptly to encourage new growth and maintain aesthetics. Trim back excessive foliage if it starts to crowd out other plants or cover too much surface area.

Propagate by dividing the rhizomes in spring. Ensure each division has at least one growth bud and sufficient root system. New plants can also be grown from seeds, though this is a slower process.

Repot container-grown water lilies every 1-2 years, preferably in early spring before active growth begins. Use a large, heavy pot filled with a heavy loam-based soil mix, avoiding peat.
