Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering is a common cause of root rot. Water thoroughly when the top 5-10 cm of soil feels dry.

Prune to remove dead or damaged leaves, or to control size and shape. Cut back stems to encourage bushier growth. Use clean, sharp tools. Pruning can be done at any time of year, but it's best to do it in spring.
