Water thoroughly when the soil surface begins to dry out, especially during active growth in spring. Reduce watering significantly as the foliage yellows and dies back in late spring or early summer.

Ensure good drainage to prevent bulb rot, as it dislikes waterlogged conditions.

Remove spent flower stalks only after the seeds have fully developed or been dispersed. Allow the foliage to die back naturally; do not cut it off prematurely, as it replenishes the bulb for the following year's bloom.

Remove any dead or diseased foliage in autumn.

Propagate by carefully dividing overcrowded clumps of bulbs after the foliage has died back. Sow fresh seeds immediately after collection in a cool, moist medium.

Seed germination can be erratic and may take several years to produce flowering-sized bulbs.

Repot bulbs every 2-3 years or when they appear to be overcrowding their container. This is best done in late summer or early autumn, just as new roots begin to form.

Use a well-draining, gritty compost mix suitable for alpine or woodland plants.
