Bromelia alsodes prefers consistently moist soil but dislikes waterlogged conditions. Water thoroughly when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry. Empty the central cup if it holds standing water to prevent rot.

Reduce watering slightly in cooler months.

Remove dead or dying leaves and spent flower spikes at the base using clean, sharp scissors or a knife. Bromeliads are monocarpic, meaning the mother plant typically dies after flowering.

Prune away the spent mother plant once it has finished.

Bromelia alsodes reproduces through basal offsets, often called 'pups,' which emerge from the base of the mother plant. Once a pup reaches about one-third the size of the mother plant, it can be carefully separated and potted into its own container.

Repot Bromelia alsodes when it becomes root-bound or the pups have grown significantly. Use a well-draining potting mix, such as a bromeliad-specific blend or a mix of peat moss, perlite, and bark.

Repot in spring or early summer.
