Watering, pruning, propagation, and repotting details from plant data
Water moderately during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Reduce watering significantly in winter, keeping the soil just moist to prevent root rot.
Ensure good drainage to avoid waterlogged conditions, which this plant dislikes.
Prune lightly after flowering to maintain a compact shape and encourage bushier growth. Remove any dead or spent flower stalks. Heavy pruning is generally not required, as the plant naturally forms a neat mound.
Propagate by softwood cuttings taken in late spring or early summer, or by division in early spring. Cuttings root readily in a sandy, well-draining medium. Divisions should be replanted immediately and kept moist.
Repot young plants annually or biennially in spring to provide fresh soil and adequate space. Mature plants can be repotted less frequently. Use a fast-draining potting mix, such as a blend for succulents or cacti.
