Watering, pruning, propagation, and repotting details from plant data
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, especially during fruit development. Reduce watering slightly as fruits ripen to prevent splitting and enhance sweetness.
Water at the base of the plant to minimize the risk of fungal diseases on the leaves.
Pruning is generally not required for muskmelons, but you can pinch back the main vine after it has produced a few fruits to encourage branching and potentially more fruit development. Remove any yellowing or diseased leaves promptly to maintain plant health.
Muskmelons are typically grown from seed. Sow seeds indoors about 3-4 weeks before the last expected frost, or directly sow them outdoors after all danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed to at least 21°C.
Use a well-draining seed-starting mix.
Muskmelons are not typically repotted as they are usually grown from seed and transplanted once into the garden or a larger container. If started indoors, transplant seedlings into larger pots (around 10-15 cm) once they have developed their first true leaves, before moving them to their final location.

10 known issues from plant disease data
Powdery mildew on Melon causes white powdery patches on leaves and vines, leading to yellowing, drying, and weaker fruit-producing growth.
Downy mildew on Melon causes yellow to brown leaf spots and gray-purple growth underneath, quickly blighting leaves and reducing vigor.
Fusarium wilt on Melon causes vines to wilt, yellow, and collapse, often starting on one side before the whole plant declines.
Gummy stem blight on Melon causes dark leaf and stem lesions, vine damage, and rapid blighting that can weaken the whole plant.
Anthracnose on Melon causes brown sunken spots on leaves, stems, and fruit, leading to blight, fruit damage, and vine decline.
Bacterial wilt on Melon causes sudden leaf and vine wilting, with plants collapsing fast even when the soil has enough moisture.
