Carolina Wild Petunia prefers consistently moist soil, especially during its active growing season. Water deeply when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry.

Reduce watering in fall and winter to prevent waterlogged conditions, as it can tolerate drier periods when dormant.

Pruning is primarily for aesthetic purposes and to encourage bushier growth and more blooms. Deadhead spent flowers regularly to prolong blooming.

Cut back plants in late winter or early spring before new growth emerges to maintain shape and vigor. Light trimming throughout the season can also be done.

Ruellia caroliniensis is easily propagated by seed, which can be sown directly outdoors in spring after the last frost. It also readily self-seeds.
