Propagation is typically done through seed, which requires a period of cold stratification. Grafting is also an option for more reliable results, often performed on related species like Carya glabra.

Sow stratified seeds in spring in a well-drained medium.

Repotting is generally not applicable to Carya carolinae as it is a large native tree. For container-grown seedlings or young trees, repot every 2-3 years into a slightly larger container with well-draining soil, preferably in early spring before new growth begins.
