Prune after flowering to shape the plant and remove any dead or damaged branches. Light pruning can encourage denser growth. Avoid heavy pruning, as Feltleaf Ceanothus generally responds best to minimal intervention.

Remove suckers from the base to maintain a desirable form.

Best propagated from semi-ripe cuttings taken in summer or from seed sown in autumn. Seeds may require stratification (a period of cold treatment) to germinate.

Cuttings should be treated with rooting hormone and placed in a well-draining medium in a warm environment.

Feltleaf Ceanothus generally dislikes being transplanted and is best planted out into its permanent position as soon as possible.

If it must be repotted, do so in spring, disturbing the root ball as little as possible to minimize transplant shock. Use a well-draining soil mix.
