Water chia regularly, especially during its active growth phase. Allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. In drier climates or when grown in containers, more frequent watering may be necessary.

Avoid waterlogging the roots, which can lead to fungal diseases and root rot.

Pruning is generally not required for Salvia hispanica unless it becomes leggy or overgrown.

If desired, prune lightly in late spring or early summer after the main flowering period to maintain shape and encourage bushier growth. Remove any dead or damaged stems at any time of year.
