Watering, pruning, propagation, and repotting details from plant data
Water Chinese Bladdernut regularly, especially during dry periods, to maintain consistently moist soil. Avoid waterlogging, as this can lead to root rot. Reduce watering frequency in winter when the plant is dormant.
Deep watering is preferred over frequent shallow watering.
Prune Chinese Bladdernut in late winter or early spring before flowering. Remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches. Pruning can also be done to shape the plant and improve air circulation.
Light pruning can be done after flowering to manage size.
Propagate Chinese Bladdernut from seeds sown in autumn or early spring. Stratification may be necessary for seeds to germinate. Softwood cuttings can be taken in early summer and rooted in moist, well-draining soil.
Grafting is also an option for specific cultivars.
Repot young Chinese Bladdernut plants every 2-3 years, or when they become root-bound. Use a well-draining potting mix. Mature plants in the ground typically do not require repotting.
Repot in early spring before new growth appears.
