Water deeply when the top 5-10 cm of soil is dry. Allow soil to dry out between waterings, especially once established. Reduce watering significantly in winter to prevent root rot.

Overwatering can be detrimental to this drought-tolerant species.

Prune in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Remove dead, diseased, or crossing branches.

Pruning can be done to maintain desired shape and size, and to encourage fruiting, as flowers and fruits are often borne on older wood.

Propagate from seeds sown in spring, or from semi-hardwood cuttings taken in summer. Seeds may require stratification. Cuttings should be placed in well-draining potting mix and kept moist until established.

Both methods offer good success rates.

Repot young plants every 2-3 years in spring. Mature plants are best left undisturbed as they dislike root disturbance. Use a well-draining potting mix.

Repotting is mainly for managing size or refreshing the soil for younger specimens.
