Water moderately when the top 5-7 cm of soil feels dry. Cistus species are drought-tolerant once established, so avoid overwatering. Reduce watering significantly during winter dormancy to prevent root rot.

Prune after flowering to maintain shape and encourage bushier growth. Remove dead or crossing branches. Avoid hard pruning into old wood, as it may not regrow.

Light trimming can be done in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.

Propagate from semi-hardwood cuttings taken in late summer or early autumn. Dip cuttings in rooting hormone and plant in a well-draining medium. Rooting can be slow and may require a heated propagator for best results.

Seed propagation is also possible.

Repot young plants in spring every 2-3 years if they become root-bound. Use a gritty, well-draining compost mix. Cistus generally dislikes root disturbance, so handle gently.

Mature plants are best left undisturbed in their pots or planted directly into the ground.
