Coltsfoot prefers consistently moist soil, especially during its active growth period. Water thoroughly when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry. Avoid waterlogging, which can lead to root rot.

Reduce watering in winter when the plant is dormant, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings.

Pruning is generally not required for Coltsfoot. Dead or damaged foliage can be removed at any time to maintain tidiness.

If the plant spreads too aggressively, its growth can be managed by physical barriers or by regularly removing unwanted shoots from the root system.

Coltsfoot readily spreads via rhizomes, making division the easiest method of propagation.

In early spring or autumn, carefully dig up sections of the root system that contain buds or shoots and replant them in desired locations. It can also be propagated from seed, though this is less common.

Coltsfoot is typically grown in garden beds rather than pots. If grown in containers, repotting is usually only necessary if the plant becomes root-bound or outgrows its container.

This is best done in early spring before new growth appears, using a well-draining potting mix.
