Water regularly during dry periods, especially in the first year. Ensure soil is consistently moist but not waterlogged. Reduce watering in winter when growth slows.

Check soil moisture by touch; if the top 2-3 cm feels dry, it's time to water. Overwatering can lead to root rot.

Prune common box in late spring or early summer after the main flush of growth. This encourages dense foliage.

For formal shapes or hedges, trim as needed throughout the growing season, but avoid heavy pruning in late summer or fall to allow new growth to harden off.

Propagate common box by taking semi-hardwood cuttings in late summer or early fall. Select healthy, current-year shoots, cut them into 10-15 cm lengths, and insert them into a well-draining potting mix.

Keep moist and in a shaded, protected location until rooted.
