Water thoroughly when the top 5-10 cm of soil is dry, allowing excess to drain. Reduce watering in winter to prevent root rot.

Banksia plagiocarpa prefers well-drained soil and is sensitive to overwatering, especially in cooler months.

Prune after flowering to shape the plant and remove spent flower heads. Light pruning can encourage bushier growth. Avoid heavy pruning into old wood, as it may not regrow.

Remove any dead or damaged branches at any time.

Best propagated from cuttings taken in late spring or early summer. Use a rooting hormone and a well-draining, sandy medium. Maintain high humidity and warmth until roots develop.

Seed propagation is also possible but can be slow.

Repot young plants every 2-3 years in spring, or when root-bound. Use a well-draining potting mix, ideally containing sand or grit. Choose a pot that is only slightly larger than the current one to avoid waterlogging.
