Dark-Leaved Willow prefers consistently moist soil. Water deeply when the top few centimeters feel dry, especially during dry spells. Avoid waterlogged conditions, which can lead to root rot.

Mature trees are somewhat drought-tolerant but perform best with regular watering.

Prune in late winter or early spring while dormant. Remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches. Hard pruning can be done to rejuvenate older plants or maintain a desired size and shape.

Willow responds well to coppicing for biomass production or for creating a pollarded effect.

Easily propagated from semi-hardwood or hardwood cuttings taken in summer or autumn. Insert cuttings into moist potting mix or directly into the ground. They root readily in cool, moist conditions.

Layering is also an effective method for increasing plants.

Young plants may need repotting every 1-2 years into slightly larger containers. Use a well-draining potting mix. Repotting is typically done in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.

Mature trees are best left undisturbed.
