Dierama atrum prefers consistently moist soil, especially during its active growth period in spring and summer. Water deeply when the top few centimeters of soil feel dry.

Reduce watering in autumn and winter to prevent waterlogging and root rot, allowing the soil to dry out more between waterings.

Deadhead spent flower stalks to maintain a tidy appearance and prevent self-seeding if unwanted. In late winter or early spring, before new growth begins, prune away any dead, damaged, or diseased foliage.

Cut back the old foliage clump to about 10-15 cm above the ground.

Propagation is best achieved by division in early spring. Carefully lift the clumps and divide them into smaller sections, ensuring each section has roots and shoots. Replant immediately into well-drained soil.

Seed propagation is possible but slower and may not result in true-to-type plants.

Dierama atrum generally dislikes disturbance and is best left in its established location. If repotting becomes absolutely necessary, do so in early spring before new growth begins.

Handle the root ball with extreme care to minimize transplant shock and replant at the same depth it was previously growing.
