Eggplants require consistent moisture, especially during flowering and fruiting. Water deeply at the base of the plant, avoiding wetting the foliage. Allow the top 2-3 cm of soil to dry out between waterings.

Reduce watering slightly once fruits begin to mature to prevent splitting.

Pruning is generally minimal for eggplants. Pinch back the main stem when the plant is about 20-30 cm tall to encourage branching. Remove any yellowing or diseased leaves promptly.

Some gardeners may remove suckers to direct energy towards fruit production, but this is not always necessary.

Eggplants are typically propagated from seeds sown indoors 6-8 weeks before the last expected frost. Sow seeds in a well-draining seed-starting mix, about 0. 5 cm deep.

Keep the soil consistently moist and warm (24-29°C) for germination. Transplant seedlings after all danger of frost has passed.

Repotting is primarily for seedlings started indoors. Once seedlings have developed their first true leaves and are large enough to handle, transplant them into larger pots (10-15 cm diameter).

Use a good quality potting mix. Gradually acclimate them to outdoor conditions before planting into the final garden location.
