In containers, allow the pot to sit in a shallow tray of water. Avoid allowing the substrate to dry out completely.

Pruning is generally minimal. Remove any dead or yellowing culms (stems) as needed by cutting them back to the soil line. This helps maintain a tidy appearance and prevents disease.

Heavy pruning is usually not required for this vigorous grower.

Propagation is easily achieved through division of established clumps in spring. Carefully separate the rhizomatous root masses, ensuring each section has healthy shoots.

Alternatively, seed propagation can be done in moist, well-drained soil under warm conditions.

Repotting is recommended every 1-2 years, or when the plant becomes root-bound. This is best done in spring. For aquatic setups, use a heavy, soil-based potting mix that won't easily disperse.
