Watering, pruning, propagation, and repotting details from plant data
Water moderately during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Reduce watering significantly in fall and winter to prevent root rot.
Ensure good drainage to avoid waterlogged conditions, which this grass dislikes.
Prune back to a few inches above the ground in late winter or early spring before new growth emerges. Remove any dead or damaged foliage throughout the year as needed.
This encourages a tidy appearance and vigorous new shoots.
Propagate by division of established clumps in spring or early fall. Carefully separate the rhizomatous root system into smaller sections, ensuring each section has adequate roots and shoots.
Replant immediately into well-draining soil.
Repotting is generally not necessary for ornamental grasses like Eragrostis heteromera unless grown in containers. If container-grown, repot every 2-3 years into a slightly larger pot with fresh, well-draining potting mix in spring.
