Keep the central cup of Vriesea splendens filled with fresh water, changing it every few weeks to prevent stagnation. Water the potting medium sparingly, allowing it to dry slightly between waterings.

Avoid waterlogging, as this can lead to root rot. Reduce watering in cooler months.

Pruning is minimal for Vriesea splendens. Remove any dead or dying leaves as they appear, cutting them back to the base of the plant.

Once the flower spike has faded and the main plant begins to die back after flowering, it will naturally produce pups. Remove these pups for propagation.

Vriesea splendens is primarily propagated through offsets, commonly called pups, which appear around the base of the mature plant after flowering. Once these pups are about one-third the size of the mother plant, they can be carefully separated and potted in a well-draining bromeliad mix.
