Water moderately during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Reduce watering significantly in winter, keeping the soil just moist enough to prevent complete desiccation.

Overwatering can lead to root rot, especially in poorly draining soils. Ensure good drainage.

Deadhead spent flowers regularly to encourage further blooming and maintain a tidy appearance. After flowering, you can cut back the plant by about a third to promote bushier growth and prevent it from becoming leggy.

Remove any dead or damaged stems in early spring.

Easily propagated from seed sown in autumn or early spring. Seeds may require stratification. Softwood cuttings can be taken in late spring or early summer and rooted in a moist, well-draining medium.

Division of established clumps in spring is also effective.

Perennial varieties generally do not require frequent repotting. If grown in containers, repot every 2-3 years in spring into a slightly larger pot with fresh, well-draining compost.
