Forsythia prefers consistent moisture, especially when young or during dry spells. Water deeply at the base of the plant, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings.

Avoid waterlogged conditions, which can lead to root rot. Reduce watering in autumn as growth slows.

Prune forsythia immediately after flowering to avoid removing next year's flower buds. Remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches.

To rejuvenate an overgrown shrub, cut one-third of the oldest stems back to the ground each year over a three-year period.

Forsythia can be propagated by softwood cuttings taken in late spring or early summer, or by semi-hardwood cuttings in mid-summer. Layering is also effective.

Plant cuttings in a well-draining medium and keep moist until established.
