Prune annually in late winter or early spring before new growth begins to shape the plant, remove dead or diseased wood, and encourage denser foliage. For the characteristic red new growth, light trimming after the first flush of growth in spring can promote more vibrant color.

Propagate by semi-hardwood cuttings taken in mid-summer. Dip the cut ends in rooting hormone and plant in a well-draining potting mix.

Keep the cuttings moist and in a warm, humid environment, ideally with bottom heat, until roots have formed, typically within 4-8 weeks.

Repot young plants every 1-2 years, or when root-bound, in spring. Choose a pot that is slightly larger than the current one with adequate drainage holes. Use a good quality, well-draining potting mix.
