Water regularly when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry. Amsonia ciliata prefers consistent moisture but tolerates short dry spells once established. Avoid waterlogged conditions, which can lead to root rot.

Water deeply to encourage strong root development.

Deadhead spent flowers to encourage a tidier appearance and potentially a second flush of blooms.

Cut back the entire plant by one-third to one-half after flowering to maintain a compact shape and prevent it from becoming leggy. Remove any dead or damaged stems in late winter.

Easily propagated from seed sown in autumn or early spring, or by division of established clumps in early spring. Softwood cuttings can be taken in late spring or early summer and rooted in moist potting mix.

Seeds may require stratification.

Established plants generally do not require frequent repotting and prefer to be left undisturbed. If repotting is necessary, typically every 3-5 years, do so in early spring before new growth emerges.

Choose a pot only slightly larger than the current root ball.
