Watering, pruning, propagation, and repotting details from plant data
Alchemilla mollis thrives with consistent moisture, particularly during dry spells and its active growing season. Water deeply when the top few centimeters of soil feel dry to the touch.
Avoid waterlogging, as this can lead to root rot. Established plants show some drought tolerance but perform best with regular hydration.
Pruning Lady's Mantle is minimal. Deadhead spent flower stalks after blooming to encourage a tidier appearance and prevent excessive self-seeding.
You can also cut back the foliage hard in late summer or early autumn if it looks tired or scorched, which often encourages a flush of fresh, new leaves.
Alchemilla mollis is easily propagated by division in spring or early autumn. Gently lift the clump, separate it into smaller sections, ensuring each has roots and some foliage, and replant.
It also readily self-seeds, so seedlings can be carefully transplanted. Cuttings are generally not a primary method.
Repotting is primarily for container-grown Alchemilla mollis. Repot every 2-3 years in early spring into a slightly larger pot with fresh, well-draining potting mix.
For garden plants, division every few years serves a similar purpose, rejuvenating the plant and preventing overcrowding. Ensure good drainage in any container.
