Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering is the most common cause of root rot. Water thoroughly when the plant shows signs of thirst, such as slightly deflated leaves.

Reduce watering significantly during the cooler, dormant winter months.

Prune to remove dead, damaged, or diseased leaves. This can be done at any time of year. If you wish to shape the plant or control its size, prune in spring before active growth begins.

Use clean, sharp tools to make cuts.

Propagate from offsets or 'pups' that grow from the base of the parent plant. Carefully separate the offsets with a clean knife when they are a few inches tall and have developed their own roots.

Allow the cut surface to callus over for a few days before planting.

Repot mature plants every 2-3 years or when they outgrow their container. Choose a pot that is only slightly larger than the current one with good drainage holes.

Repot in spring or early summer using a well-draining potting mix for succulents. Water lightly after repotting.
