Water deeply but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering is a common cause of root rot. Reduce watering significantly during the winter dormancy period.

Prune after flowering to maintain a tidy shape and encourage more blooms. Remove spent flower stalks and any dead or straggly stems.

Light pruning can also be done in early spring before new growth begins to stimulate bushier growth.

Propagate by seed sown in spring or by stem cuttings taken in late spring or early summer. Seeds germinate best in well-drained soil under warm conditions.
