Hammer Sedge prefers consistently moist soil. Water regularly, especially during dry periods, ensuring the soil does not dry out completely. Reduce watering in cooler months but maintain some moisture.

Avoid waterlogged conditions which can lead to root rot.

Prune Hammer Sedge in late winter or early spring before new growth emerges. Cut back old, dead, or damaged foliage to about 5-10 cm from the ground.

This encourages vigorous new growth and maintains a tidy appearance throughout the growing season.

Propagation is typically done by division in early spring or autumn. Carefully lift the clump and divide it into smaller sections, ensuring each section has roots and shoots. Replant immediately into well-prepared soil.

Seed propagation is also possible but less common for cultivars.

Repotting is generally not required for established plants grown in the ground. Container-grown Hammer Sedge may benefit from repotting every 2-3 years in spring.

Choose a pot only slightly larger than the current one and use a well-draining potting mix.
