Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering is the most common cause of root rot in Aptenia cordifolia.

In cooler months, reduce watering significantly to prevent waterlogged soil.

Prune to maintain shape, control size, and encourage bushier growth. Remove leggy or overgrown stems at any time of year.

Pruning also helps prevent the plant from becoming too woody and can be used to propagate new plants.

Easily propagated from stem cuttings. Take 4-6 cm cuttings in spring or summer and plant them in well-draining soil or place them in water. Roots will form quickly, and they can then be planted into their own pots.

Repot every 2-3 years or when the plant becomes root-bound. Choose a pot with drainage holes and use a well-draining potting mix. Repot in spring before new growth begins to minimize stress.
