Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering is a common cause of root rot. In winter, reduce watering significantly. Water thoroughly when you do water, ensuring excess drains away.

Feel the soil; if it's dry an inch or two down, it's time to water.

Prune to maintain shape, remove dead or leggy growth, and encourage bushier development. Use clean, sharp tools. Pruning can also be done to propagate new plants. Remove spent flowers to encourage more blooms.

Light pruning can be done at any time, with heavier pruning in spring.

Easily propagated from stem cuttings or leaf cuttings. Allow cuttings to callous over for a few days before planting in well-draining soil. Roots will form within a few weeks.

You can also propagate from the plantlets that form along the leaf margins of some Kalanchoe species.

Repot every 2-3 years or when the plant becomes root-bound. Use a well-draining potting mix, such as a cactus or succulent blend. Choose a pot that is only slightly larger than the current one.

Repot in spring before the active growing season begins to minimize stress.
