Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, especially during active growth. Water thoroughly when the top inch of soil feels dry.

Reduce watering in dormancy, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings to prevent root rot.

Deadhead spent flowers to encourage further blooming and prevent self-seeding if unwanted. Remove any yellowed or dead foliage in late autumn or early spring to maintain plant health and appearance.

Minimal pruning is otherwise required.

Propagate by seed sown in autumn, outdoors or in a cold frame. Division of established clumps in early spring or autumn is also effective. Ensure seeds are kept moist and protected from extreme temperatures.

Forest poppies generally prefer to be left undisturbed once established. If repotting is necessary, such as for container-grown plants, do so in early spring before new growth appears. Use a well-draining potting mix.
