Young Stone Pines require consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, to establish a strong root system. Water deeply once or twice a week, ensuring the soil drains well.

Mature trees are highly drought-tolerant and generally only need supplemental watering during prolonged extreme dry spells, as excessive moisture can lead to root issues.

Pruning is generally minimal for Stone Pines, primarily for shaping, removing dead, diseased, or damaged branches, or to lift the canopy. The distinctive umbrella shape develops naturally.

Prune in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Avoid heavy pruning, as pines do not readily sprout from old wood.

Stone Pines are primarily propagated from seed. Seeds require stratification (cold treatment) for several weeks to break dormancy before sowing.

They can also be propagated by grafting, which is more common for specific cultivars or for faster growth, though this is a more advanced technique. Cuttings are generally difficult to root.

Repotting is not applicable for mature Stone Pines as they are large landscape trees.
