Japanese Pachysandra prefers consistently moist soil but not waterlogged conditions. Water deeply when the top inch of soil feels dry, especially during dry spells or prolonged heat.

Reduce watering in winter when the plant is dormant. Proper drainage is crucial to prevent root rot.

Pruning is primarily for shaping and controlling spread, or to remove dead or damaged stems. Trim in early spring before new growth begins. You can also cut back leggy stems to encourage bushier growth.

Heavy pruning can be done if the plant becomes overgrown.

Japanese Pachysandra is easily propagated by stem cuttings or division. Take cuttings in late spring or early summer and root them in moist potting mix.

Alternatively, divide established clumps in early spring or fall by carefully separating root sections and replanting them.

As a groundcover, Pachysandra terminalis is rarely repotted. If grown in containers, repot every 2-3 years in spring to refresh the soil and provide more space.

Use a well-draining potting mix, and choose a container only slightly larger than the current one.
